Quake death toll rises to 68,109

The Information Office of the State Council says more than 45 million people have been affected by the Wenchuan earthquake. The death toll has risen to 68,109. Nearly 20,000 people are still listed as missing, and over 364,000 others have been injured. More than 15 million people have been evacuated or relocated from the quake zone.

The China Seismological Bureau reported two aftershocks measuring between magnitude 5 and 5.9 on Tuesday afternoon. During the same period, 238 tremors measuring less than 3.9 on the Richter scale also occurred.

Meanwhile, donations from home and abroad have reached 34.7 billion yuan. Nearly 10 billion yuan has already been forwarded to the quake-affected areas. The central and local governments have allocated more than 19.5 billion yuan for rescue and relief work.
