The Development and Reform Commission has briefed the media on reconstruction in the quake zone. The Commission says so far major breakthroughs have been made on the repair of infrastructure.

Deputy Director Mu Hong says roads, railways and airports in the quake-hit areas have almost been fully restored, and most power stations are running again. He says the central government is doing its utmost to deliver medicine and equipment to Sichuan, and provide the necessary equipment for aid and reconstruction.

The deputy director also says drinking water in the quake zone is safe, and communications have returned to normal. He added that aid supplies for Sichuan will not affect grain and oil supplies for the rest of country.
