Evacuation preparation underway
Adjust font size:

Experts say rising water levels could force evacuation, as the diversion channel won't be finished until June the 5th. Under threat are people from nearly 170 communities in 33 townships of Mianyang.

Officials there have planned emergency evacuation for local residents.

The Youxian district in Mianyang city is facing the danger of flooding, as the water level rises in the Tangjiashan barrier lake.

Officials there have planned emergency evacuation for local residents.

Yan Chao, Party Secretary of Youxian District of Mianyang City, said, "If the flooding happens, it will pass quickly through the area. It won't last too long, only one or two hours. But it's difficult to tell when it will arrive. So it's really hard for us to get the perfect timing for evacuation."

Yan Chao and other local officials have also been busy informing the public.

Other preparations are also underway in the district. Daily necessities for evacuation are being dispatched to residents.

And Shima township in Youxian held a rehearsal.

Tuesday's rehearsal went smoothly, with children and seniors in front of the exodus and local officials maintaining order.
