China's Ambassador to Britain says the professionalism and dedication of a British medical team has earned the respect and appreciation of the people in the affected areas.

Members of the British medical team told the Chinese ambassador their experience in Sichuan was memorable. They said the severity of the disaster had made the rescue and relief work extremely difficult.

That said, they were full of respect for the quick response and efficiency of the Chinese government in the relief work. They said during their stay in Mianyang, they took on emergency cases for seriously wounded patients.

Anthony Redmond, Head of UK Medical Team said "I mean the most significant experience was when we were all on the 11th floor in the operating unit, when a large aftershock hit. And the whole operating room was shaking. We had to take 3 patients out of the operating room and complete the surgery in a tent. I'm also deeply impressed by the spirit of the Chinese people. How well they respond to the disaster and how determined they are to recover and rebuild."

The medical team was organized by the Register of Engineers for Disaster Relief. The 7 members arrived in Mianyang on May 23rd, the first medical team operating in the city. They worked closely with local medical workers.
