Relief show raises funds in Thailand

In Thailand, a fundraising show, Tuesday evening helped to raise money for the continuing relief effort in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Nearly 25 hundred people turned out for the show. Most were Chinese working and living in Thailand. These included figures from the political, economic and cultural sectors.

The show was organized by the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Thailand. The presentation was part of the efforts underway globally to bring relief to Sichuan.

As the evening opened,Wu Hongfeng, chairman of the chamber of commerce, expressed concern for victims of the catastrophe on behalf of Chinese living in Thailand. He appealed to everyone to lend a hand, to help quake survivors pull through the hardships. In addition to its central focus on the relief effort, the presentation also had an Olympics theme. The program offered expressions of good will and hopes for the success of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, opening in the second week of August.

The program proved a success, with more than 5 million yuan RMB in contributions.

Since news of the earthquake reached Thailand, local communities have shown unwavering support for the relief effort. In a recent Chinese-speaking contest among Bangkok's middle school students, competitors sent their best wishes to quake survivors in Sichuan.
