The Chinese mainland actress Fan Bingbing was named as Poverty Alleviation Ambassador at the launch of the Dreams 2008 poverty relief event sponsored by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation.

The event which was held at the Great Hall of the People, also appointed the famous Chinese TV hostess Yang Lan and the actor Pu Cunxin as ambassadors that have dedicated themselves to the charitable cause.

At the ceremony, Fan Bingbing encouraged the audience to send personal donations through SMS, which provides a faster and more convenient channel for donations.

She said she hopes to take a leading role in the elimination of poverty as part of her appeal for more people to take part in the campaign.
