The online magazine "Kai La" founded by actress and director Xu Jinglei turned one-year-old earlier this month. Because the magazine and its office are virtual, the birthday celebration was held in a sports field.

On Saturday, Xu Jinglei threw the anniversary party -- a sports meeting -- for her magazine. On the running track of her alma mater, No.80 High School in Beijing, Xu Jinglei competed in a variety of sports along with more than 100 readers of "Kai La." The lucky fans were selected from the flood of applications the virtual magazine received, reported Sina.com.cn.

An impressive line-up of celebrities were among the athletes present, including supermodel Chun Xiao, actress Huo Siyan, and film director Gu Changwei.

Xu Jinglei, whose impressive resume includes acting, directing and blogging, launched "Kai La" on April 16, 2007. The semimonthly Web magazine covers diverse topics and has reportedly attracted as many as 200 million downloads since its launch.
