The Oscar-nominated actress insists she, her director spouse Sam, and the two children they raise together - Mia, eight and Joe, five - are just an ordinary family.

She said: "We do normal things that any other family would.

"It's important to us that the children are just regular kids, so we go to the park, kick a ball around, go to a museum, watch a movie together or just hang out at home playing Monopoly."

The couple - who split their time between the US and the UK - recently worked together for the first time on "Revolutionary Road" which 43-year-old Sam directed.

Kate said: "I had looked forward to working with Sam at some point in my life, and it had reached the point where wonderful actors like Tom Hanks would tell me he is so great and I would tell them to shut up, because I was starting to get a bit jealous."

It has been a successful start to the year for the 33-year-old actress after she won two Golden Globe awards - for Best Dramatic Actress in "Revolutionary Road" and Best Supporting Actress in "The Reader."

Kate has also received two BAFTA nominations in the Best Actress category for 'Revolutionary Road' and 'The Reader', and is in the running for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in "The Reader."
