Madonna is reportedly considering adopting a further Malawi child to be a "brother or sister" for David Banda, the child she officially adopted in 2008 after taking him from an orphanage in 2006.
The singer told Malawi newspaper Nation that she saw herself as a "role model" for people adopting children from the African country, but that she would only adopt another child with the support of Malawi authorities.
"It's something I have been considering," she said, "but would only do if I had the support of the Malawian people and the Government.
She added: "Many people β especially our Malawian friends β say that David should have a Malawian brother or sister. I am the template or the role model, so to speak, for future adoptions."
The comments came in response to the singer answering questions readers had sent into the newspaper.
