The Getty Museum has acquired a significant group of works by Chinese contemporary photographers. Nine works by acclaimed artists Wang Qingsong and Hai Bo have been bought by the Los Angeles museum, which is known for the depth and breadth of its collection of European and American photographs.

It is the Getty's first major acquisition in the field of contemporary Chinese photography. The artworks were acquired from AW Asia, a New York company that promotes Chinese contemporary art.

Since the early 1990s, Wang Qingsong and Hai Bo have been at the forefront of a movement that has reinvigorated photography as an art form in China. Photography is one of the most vibrant areas of Chinese contemporary art, and Wang Qingsong and Hai Bo have produced some of the most engaging and evocative work in the field.
