This year's Venice International Film Festival will have a romantic ending.

"Chengdu, I Love You", a film about three intertwined stories set in the Chinese metropolis of Chengdu, has been chosen to close the September 2-12 festival, the organizers announced on Tuesday.

The film is a co-operation between Fruit Chan, Heo Jin-Ho and Cui Jian, who respectively helmed a story set between the years 1976 and 2029.

Hong Kong director Fruit Chan is a Venice patron. He has been nominated twice for the Golden Lion, the festival's top honor, for "Durian Durian" in 2000 and "Hollywood Hong Kong" the following year.

Beijing-based Cui Jian is best known as the godfather of Chinese rock music. "Chengdu" is his feature-length debut. The rock star made a short film in 2006.

The other co-director, Heo Jin-Ho from South Korea, is specialized in the romance genre. His most notable film is the 1998 drama "Christmas in August".

The cast of "Chengdu" is a mix of Chinese and Korean talent. They include Gao Yuanyuan, Tan Weiwei and Jung Woo-Sung.

The film is not in competition for the Golden Lion. Official entries for the award will be announced on Thursday.

The Venice International Film Festival, one of the world's oldest and most celebrated film festivals, will convene for the 66th time this year.
