Taiwan filmmaker Cheng Wen-Tang's crime drama "Tears" and mainland director Tian Zhuangzhuang's fantasy movie "The Warrior and the Wolf" will open the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival in November.

"Tears" is about a veteran policeman who insists on investigating a drug-related death, although the scrupulous detective is discovered to have his own dark past.

"The Warrior and the Wolf" is based on an ancient myth in which a frontier warrior and a tribeswoman are transformed into wolves after falling in love.

The two films will open the Golden Horse festival on November 5. The 46th Golden Horse Awards Ceremony, known as the Chinese-language Oscars, will conclude the festival on November 28. Nominees will be announced on October 7.
