Shenzhen Offers Educational Aid to Xinjiang

Shenzhen, the country’s first special economic zone, signed an agreement Monday to donate funds for education in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China.

Shenzhen will give some 100 million yuan (US$12 million) to help poor children in Xinjiang go to school, according to the agreement.

Shenzhen and Xinjiang also plan to further their cooperation in economic and trade exchanges, scientific and technological research, personnel training and other fields, according to the agreement.

Shenzhen has offered 350 million yuan to establish more than 350 primary schools and improve local infrastructure construction and health care systems in the country's western areas over the past decade.

Statistics show that the total cooperation projects between Shenzhen and other regions, especially those in west China have reached over 25.5 billion yuan.
