A resource and environment geographical information system has been put into use in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The system consists of project management, general introduction to the region, natural resources, environmental resources, climate, townships with special characteristics, social economy, data on various counties, Tibetan pharmaceuticals, and a database on animals and plants.

It will reflect and reveal the characteristics of regional layout, the structure, regional combination, resources, development potential and prospects.

The system is developed jointly by the Geography and Resource Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Tibet Scientific and Technological Information Research Institute.
