Sept. 27 each year is an international commemorative day the UN World Tourism Organization has formally decided.

Ningbo Municipal Government announced recently in Shanghai that the principal venue for celebrations of the 2001 World Tourism Day will be held in Ningbo, a port city in east China's Zhejiang Province.

Aiming at pushing both domestic and international tourism of countries worldwide and promoting the cooperations between nations in culture, arts, economy and trade, the UN World Tourism Organization sets the World Tourism Day.

Since 1997, the State Tourism Administration(STA) has in succession hosted events in celebration of the World Tourism Day in several domestic cities.

A total of eight domestic cities have applied to the STA this year for the principal venue of the celebration. The city of Ningbo was finally singled out as the main venue for this year's celebration.
