Good Social Environment Crucial for Preventing Juvenile Delinquency

A social environment favorable for the growth of Chinese youths is crucial for preventing juvenile delinquency in the country, according to a national meeting on social problems.

Preventing and reducing juvenile delinquency concerns not only the healthy growth of juveniles and the happiness of families, but also the future of the nation, said Wang Shengjun, a senior official with the law affairs department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Wang urged local CPC committees and governments at all levels to strengthen legal education among primary and secondary school students and take practical measures to keep social stability.

All must be aimed at providing a social environment favorable for the growth of juveniles in the country, Wang said at the meeting, which was sponsored by the Central Commission for Comprehensive Management of Social Problems.

Senior officials from the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Education and other government departments and social organizations attended the meeting and shared their views on how to prevent juvenile delinquency.
