Tourists to Tibet Historical High

Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region attracted a total of 236,330 tourists in the first half of this year, up nearly 100 percent from the same period last year, according to the regional tourism bureau.

Overseas tourists showed a noticeable increase of 105.9 percent, reaching 52,318. Local tourists chalked up an increase of 78.7 percent in the same period, reaching 184,012.

The region's tourism industry realized an output value of 130 million yuan, 33.9 percent over the same period last year. Meanwhile, the region's tourism sector reported a foreign currency income of US$20.34 million.

To further increase local tourism, Tibet will stage a series of business events and promotional activities at home and abroad in the second half of this year.
