Chinese Vice Premier Meets Overseas Chinese Professionals

Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing called on in Beidaihe on August 8 more overseas Chinese and foreigners of Chinese origin to come back to run business in China.

Li, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the call in his meeting with a group of overseas Chinese and foreigners of Chinese origin at this summer resort, some 200 kilometers away from Beijing.

Extending welcome to the group of professionals, Li encouraged those who have already run businesses in China to further expand their undertaking here in the future.

The group were here attending a two-day meeting to exchange experiences among themselves and on presenting what they have achieved in running business in China.

The meeting was sponsored by the Office of the Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council.

Most of the people in the group went overseas to conduct advanced studies after China's opening-up before working in foreign countries. And about 80 percent of them have got doctorate.

Dubbed as "new migrants", they returned to their ancestral land to engage in such new sectors or undertakings as information technology, bio-engineering, finance, law, education and medicine, contributing their bit to China's economic development and scientific and technological progress.
