Guangdong Uncovers 18,000 Smuggling Cases in Past Two Years

In the past two years, Guangdong Province has investigated 18,000 cases of smuggling worth approximately 5.9 billion yuan, according to a conference on smuggling in Guangdong. Customs investigated 15,800 of those cases worth 5.6 billion yuan while the Public Security Bureau and border patrol investigated 2,587 cases worth 320 million yuan.

Tourists entering and leaving Guangdong account for 70 percent of China's tourists, goods imported and exported from Guangdong account for 33 percent of China's trade and imported and exported transportation vehicles account for 90 percent of China's vehicles. This plays a major role in the development of Guangdong's economy, but it also makes Guangdong a major area for smuggling.
