High-tech Export Up 40 Percent

The export volume of China's high-tech products reached nearly US$15.7 billion in the first six months of the year, up 48 percent from the same period last year, said an official of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

According to custom statistics, the import of high-tech products also witnessed a 35 percent increase.

In June, the export and import volumes of high-tech products was US$3.1 billion and US$5 billion respectively, both record monthly high of the year.

The export volume of products made by China's 52 industrial high-tech development zones reached US$3.2 billion in the first half of the year, up 50 percent from the same period last year.

Among exported high-tech products in the first six months, computer and telecommunications products accounted for 72 percent.

The exported high-tech products accounted for 13.7 percent of all China's exported commodities.

China has adopted a serial of preferential policies for encouraging the export of high-tech products and the development of high-tech products since last August.

Preferential policies are given to high-tech sectors such as telecommunications, information, software, space, bio-pharmaceuticals, medical instruments and new energy.
