Vice-Premier Meets Foreign Ministers of Rio Group

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen highly praised the constructive role of the Rio Group in Latin American as well as in international affairs when he met with foreign ministers of Columbia, Mexico and Chile of the Rio Group in Beijign on July 31.

Qian said the relations between China and the Rio Group over the past 10 years have increased mutual understanding and cooperation between the two sides. He said the friendly relations between China and the Rio Group and other Latin American countries will continue to development in the new century.

The three foreign ministers, Guillermo Fernandez de Soto of Columbia, Rosario Green of Mexico and Soledad Alvear of Chile, said members of the Rio Group attach special importance to political dialogues with China, which have been fruitful.

The relations between the Rio Group and China have become increasingly important, they said, adding that their current visit to China will further enhance such relations.

The three foreign ministers arrived in Beijing on July 30 for a seven- day official visit to China.
