The Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, will hold its 17th meeting in Beijing from August 21 to 25.

There will be two draft laws for discussion at the meeting, which are the National Current Language Law and the Extradition Law. Draft amendments will also be made to the Patent Law, the Fisheries Law and three other laws during the meeting.

Members of the NPC Standing Committee will discuss some draft financial plans of the central government for this year.

They will also listen to reports from government officials on various several issues, including the work being done to promote science and education in the country, and the implementation of the National Economic and Social Development Program and the Land Management Law.
