Qian was accompanying Chinese President Jiang Zemin for the APEC meeting and a three-nation trip to Southeast Asia.

Qian said that the Clinton administration in the last eight years has made a number of important decisions on some major issues concerning the US-China relations, which helped promote the development of bilateral ties.

Albright stressed the importance of positive development of the US-China ties. Even though the two countries could not agree on

all issues, she said, the two sides held discussions on many important issues during the past eight years and achieved positiveresults.

Confident of the future development of the US-China ties, Albright said she believed the new US administration will keep the current track.
