HK Launches Global Business Alliances

A powerful alliance of entrepreneurs from Hong Kong's major markets was formed here Monday to provide a platform for business interaction on a global basis anchored in Hong Kong.

The alliance, called "Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide," was formed by 25 Hong Kong business associations from North America, Europe, Australia and Asia, with a total membership of around 7,700, most of which are small and medium-sized companies.

More than 150 representatives from member associations met in Hong Kong Monday to launch the federation.

With an aim to strengthen their links with Hong Kong and among member associations, the federation provides a cohesive framework for networking and cooperation.

The Trade Development Council of Hong Kong, which organized the meeting, will establish a website to facilitate the work of the federation.

Addressing a reception for the delegates, Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said he welcomed the establishment of the Federation of the Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide, which will help further expand Hong Kong's network overseas, widen and deepen the business links with Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and the rest of Asia.

He expressed the confidence that the newly formed federation will have a key role to play in forging and promoting strategic partnership between Hong Kong and overseas businesses to tap new opportunities.
