Shanghai Tourism Festival Opens

2000 Shanghai Tourism Festival began October 14 in the square in front of Shanghai's new railway station.

The tourism festival aims to attract 100,000 overseas tourists, 1 million Chinese tourists and 10 million Shanghai residents.

Organizers of the festival designed some special sightseeing events, such as the 10 best buildings decorated by lights in Shanghai, visiting colleges and universities, happy travel for gray-haired people, and exploring old historic communities in Shanghai.

Foreigners will be invited to attend a Chinese poem reciting activity, attend the Confucius Cultural Festival, or learn to cook Chinese dishes during the month-long festival.

Beautifully decorated vehicles from Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Australia, and Viet Nam will be driven around Shanghai for people to observe.

Shanghai will also hold an international tourism fair, tourism souvenirs exposition, and a seminar on developing tourism products in the coming month.
