US, Chinese Airlines Signed Aircraft Purchase Pact

An aircraft purchase deal worth US$290 million was struck in Washington yesterday between China's Hainan Airlines Co Ltd and Boeing company.

Hainan Airlines will buy five Boeing 737-800 airplanes, according to the contract, which was signed by Liu Jianfeng, chairman of China's General Administration of Civil Aviation, and Fred Howard, president of Boeing China Inc. The signing ceremony was held in Meridian International Center.

Hainan Airlines Co Ltd, which was founded only seven years ago, has grown into one of the most profitable air companies in China.
