China to Launch Guilin-Bangkok Air Route

Guilin city government officials said on Sep 1 that the city will open its third international air route, from Guilin to Bangkok, on September 29.

The new route will be operated by Guangxi Airlines using a Boeing 737-500 to fly between the two cities once a week.

Some 5,000 Thai tourists visited the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south China last year, increasing by 2.4 times from the 1998 figure, because of the economic recovery in Southeast Asia. Steady growth is also expected this year, said local officials.

Guilin is a scenic city, where the Zhuang ethnic people make up the majority of its population. The city's two other air routes are from Guilin to Fukuoka of Japan and to Seoul of the Republic of Korea.
