China to Host "Longevity Festival"

The first "longevity festival" is to be hosted at Mount Heng, known as one of China's five most famous mountains, in central China's Hunan Province from October 6 to 10.

The five-day event is sponsored by the local government of Hengyang city. Sources with the organizing committee said that various activities including an international acrobatic wire-walking contest, a traditional temple fair and a trade fair will be held during the event.

1,290 meters above the sea level, Mount Heng has long been regarded as a symbol of longevity in China -- a Chinese saying goes like "may your life last as long as the southern Mountain". The southern mountain refers to Mount Heng.

The Mount Heng area attracts about two million tourists every year.
