At Least 32 Killed in Guizhou Mine Explosion

A gas explosion in a mine at Southwest China's Guizhou Province on Wednesday evening killed at least 32 people after burying 241 miners underground, the State Economic and Trade Commission (SETC) said Thursday in Beijing.

So far, 84 victims were lifted out of the mine, and three were found dead. Another 29 were also found killed underground.

The explosion took place at about 8:38 pm Wednesday at Muchonggong Mine of the Shuicheng Mine Bureau.

Rescue work is going on to save all the others, who are still missing, the SETC said.

According to orders from the State Council, SETC Director Sheng Huasheng has arrived at the scene to guide the rescue and aftermath work.
