Preparations for APEC 2001 CEO Summit in Full Swing

Preparations for the APEC CEO Summit 2001, to be held from October 18 to 20 in Shanghai this year, are well under way, the organizer of the summit said in Beijing Wednesday.

Yu Xiaosong, chairman of the preparatory committee of the summit and president of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), told a press conference that his council, the sponsor of the summit, sent invitations to leaders of the business communities in the 21 members of APEC last week.

Hundreds of business leaders from internationally well-known companies and multi-nationals are expected to attend the summit, Yu said.

The organizing committee has prepared working plans and is implementing accommodation and transportation plans as well, he said.

The theme of the CEO summit is "new century, new economy: development in a globalizing world." Top leaders of China and some other members of the APEC will address the summit, Yu said.

A special website, www.apecceo2001.org, also opened in Beijing on Wednesday.
