Medical Training Course Attracts Foreigners

Some 50 students from 28 countries have come to the capital of Shanxi Province, north China, to attend the third training course on Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion.

All lectures and personal training will be given in English by specialists in acupuncture and moxibustion from local medical institutes and research centers, and an English textbook on Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion has been compiled for the trainees.

Many of the trainees have practiced traditional Chinese medicine in their own countries and have taken a deep interest in the Chinese culture.

The course is one of the professional courses sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation as a means of multilateral aid for the developing nations.

Based on the theory that vital energy channels link the limbs and organs of human body, acupuncture and moxibustion have become important therapeutic treatments of traditional Chinese medicine.

No drugs are needed in the treatment; the curative effect is obtained simply by puncturing or applying heat to certain "points" on the body.
