The number of drug addicts registered in China hit 860,000 by the end of 2000, up 26.3 percent from the end of the previous year.
Since the mid-1990s, The problem of taking the "ice" drug and head-rocking pills have emerged cropped up in China and spread rapidly. Most of drug abusers primarily take heroin, but more and more people abuse "ice" and head-rocking pills.
Cases involving the use of "ice" and head-rocking pills have been reported across China.
The public security departments at all levels solved 96,189 drug-related cases in 2000, a 48.7 percent increase from 1999.
Police officers confiscated 6.3 tons of heroin, 2.4 tons of opium, 20.9 tons of "ice" and 240,000 head-rocking pills, as well as 200 kg of head-rocking power. They also seized 215 tons of raw materials for producing drugs.
