21 Missing in Coal Mine Accident

Twenty-one coal miners trapped in a flooded mine in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region are still missing.

Only one of the 22 miners escaped from the scene when the mine in Laibing County was flooded Friday morning. Six pumps have been working round the clock to pump water out of the coal mine.

Despite intensive efforts, chances of survival are running out for the trapped miners because of the excessively deep water, rescuers said.

The rescue work is still going on at press time. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
