Numismatician Donates All to Public Museum

A well-known numismatician in coastal Jiangsu Province, Wu Gensheng, recently donated all his 10, 000 pieces of coins to the Museum of Wujiang in his hometown.

Wu, 63, was keen on collecting ancient coins since he was young. In 1988, he set up China’s first private museum on ancient coins, which eventually closed after he donated them.

Wu’s collection ranges from knife and loop-shape coins that date back to the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC-476 BC) to modern ones, some 150 of which are precious and hard to find.

Experts estimated that his donation can exceed one million yuan in value.
