Sino-Algerian Economic Cooperation Promising

Visiting Chinese top legislator Li Peng said here Thursday that there are great potentials for trade and economic cooperation between China and Algeria, singling out energy and telecommunication as favorable areas in this respect.

At a meeting with Algerian Prime Minister Ali Benflis, Li noted the Sino-Algerian relations have witnessed great progress ever since the two countries established diplomatic relations four decades ago, with fruitful cooperation seen in various fields.

He attributed the achievements to the fact that the bilateral cooperation has all along been based upon the principle of equality and mutual benefit with no political conditions attached.

China is willing to increase the exchange of experience with Algeria on issues like economic reforms and membership applicationwith the World Trade Organization (WTO).

For his part, Benflis pointed out that high-level exchanges have helped widen the scope of bilateral cooperation.

He told Li that Algeria is interested in China's experience in economic construction, saying China's Hi-tech companies are welcome in Algeria.

Li is on the second day of his three-day stay in Algeria, the first leg in his five-nation visit which will also take him to Cuba, Argentina, Uruguay and Tunis.
