An international young pianists' contest was kicked off Wednesday in this east China metropolis Shanghai, as part of the city's ongoing international art festival.
More than 90 players from all over the world registered for the contest, but only 45 of them qualified.
The 45 pianists come from 15 countries and regions, and many of them are students at some of the world's best music schools, the organizers said.
Among the jury are Liu Shikun, one of China's leading pianists; Hiroko Nakamura, jury chairman of the Hamamatsu International Piano Contest; and Marian Rybicki and Pascal Escande, both piano professors from France.
The piano contest is the first of its kind to be held in Shanghai in over a decade.
