Party Session Concludes in Beijing

The Communist Party of China (CPC) is determined to enhance and improve its style according to the Sixth Plenum of the 15th Central Committee which concluded in Beijing Wednesday.

The three-day meeting called for all members of the Party to unite closely around the CPC Central Committee with Jiang Zemin at the core, raise high the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Thought, keep to the basic line of the Party, unite and lead the people of all ethnic groups of the country to build a prosperous, democratic, civilized and modern socialist country.

A total of 190 members and 139 alternate members of the Central Committee attended the plenum. The members of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and leading officials of relevant departments were also present as non-voting participants.

Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the Central Committee, made an important speech at the meeting.

The plenum examined and approved the proposal of enhancing and improving the Party style.

The plenum decided to promote Tang Honggao, the alternate member of the CPC Central Committee, to fill vacancy in full membership of the Committee.

The plenum also decided to repeal the alternate membership in the CPC Central Committee of Shi Zhaobin, vice secretary of the Party Committee of east China’s Fujian Province and Li Jiating, former governor of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The plenum reviewed and passed a resolution on the convening of the 16th National Congress of the CPC, which is to be held in the latter half of 2002 in Beijing. The congress will be a very important meeting, as it will be held at a time when China has entered a new period of full-scale building of a better-off society and is speeding up its socialist modernization.
