Book on Ancient Bamboo Slips Published

A book on bamboo slips or wooden tablets, which were used for writing on in ancient China, collected by the Shanghai Museum has been published.

The book contains photo copies of more than 80 types of bamboo slips dating back to the Chu State during the Warring States Period (475 BC-221 BC), which offer a good insight into almost every aspect of ancient Chinese society including history, philosophy, religion, literature, music, writing and military affairs.

The bamboo slips were bought by Shanghai Museum in Hong Kong seven years ago. To make these slips easier to read, Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House, the book's publisher, photographed the slips carefully and enlarged the inscribed words from the original 0.5 square centimeters to 1.8 square centimeters.
