Yearbooks on Scientific and Social Development Published

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) issued Monday three yearbooks on scientific and social development in the world and the country.

The three books, Yearbook on Scientific Development, Yearbook on High Technological Development and Yearbook on Sustained Development Strategy in China, elaborated scientific frontiers and major technological issues in the world.

Guo Chuanjie, a senior CAS official, said that the books provide latest statistics and useful background for decision-makers in outlining scientific and technological policies.

Deputies of the National People's Congress and members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, who are scheduled to convene early March, would gain the three yearbooks during their annual sessions, Guo said.

In Yearbook on Scientific Development, CAS President Lu Yongxiang and many other well-known scientists raise suggestion and proposal on the country's scientific projects in coming years.

Yearbook on High Technological Development briefs the world's major achievements in high technologies in 2001. Meanwhile, the book underlines advanced material and energy technologies.

Yearbook on Sustained Development Strategy in China analyzes five key factors which influence the country's sustained development from 1992 to 2002.

Science Press, which is affiliated to the CAS, publishes 15,000 copies of each yearbook. Besides decision-makers and experts, common people were also interested in the series of scientific yearbooks.
