Quake Jolts Northwest China

An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale jolted the Mongolian-Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Haixi, in northwestern China's Qinghai Province, at 6:46 a.m. (Beijing time) Thursday.

According to China's earthquake monitoring network, the epicenter of the quake is located at 34.1 degrees north latitude and 90.8 degrees east longitude.

No information about casualties is currently available due to the undeveloped communication system and sparse population in the temblor-hit area.
