Two Scientists Win China's First Supreme Sci-tech Award

A Chinese mathematician and a leading hybrid-rice expert respectively won five-million-yuan State Supreme Science and Technology Award this morning in Beijing.

The prize winners are Wu Wenjun, a mathematician and an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Yuan Longping, a world famous agronomist and the initiator of cultivation of Chinese hybrid rice.

This is China's first State Supreme Science and Technology Award. The award will be granted to no more than two outstanding scientists annually.

The awarding ceremony was held at the Great Hall of the People this morning in Beijing.
