Shanghai, the largest economic center of eastern China, Sunday released the revised data of its gross domestic product (GDP), which were confirmed by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

 

According to the municipal statistical bureau of Shanghai, the metropolis recorded 807.28 billion yuan (US$99.5 billion) of GDP in 2004, an increment of 62.25 billion yuan (US$7.7 billion) or 8.4 percent from the previously reported figure.

 

The GDP included 389.2 billion yuan (US$48 billion) in valued-added output generated by the secondary industry, and 409.7 billion yuan (US$50.5 billion) by the tertiary industry.

 

Of the 62.25 billion yuan increment, 53.18 billion yuan (US$6.6 billion), or 85.4 percent, came from the tertiary sector, the local statistical bureau said.

 

Upon the revision, the tertiary sector made up 50.8 percent of Shanghai's GDP, up from the previously reported proportion of 47.9 percent. Shares of the primary and secondary sectors decreased from 1.3 percent and 50.8 percent to 1.0 percent and 48.2 percent, respectively.
