Adjust font size:

China exported a total of 228 million units of mobile phones in 2005, surging 56 percent over the previous year, the Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday.

The ministry said China's total export value of mobile phones reached US$20.63 billion last year, a year-on-year growth of 45.7 percent.

China also realized a US$19.44 billion trade surplus in mobile phone trading last year, said the ministry, indicating the country's position as a global mobile phone manufacturing base has strengthened.

China's total trade surplus in 2005 amounted to US$100 billion, far exceeding the US$32 billion surplus in 2004, said the ministry.

The ministry said among the total trade surplus, the trade of electronic products contributed a greater share.

Statistics show that in 2005, China's export value of electronic and information products exceeded US$250 billion, about one third of the national total.
