Adjust font size:

STMicroelectronics (ST), a world-leading semiconductor producer, plans to set up a new CMOS testing, marking and packing (TMP) manufacturing facility in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province.

ST signed an agreement with the Municipal People's Government of Shenzhen, one of the country's economic engines, on Wednesday on building the self-owned plant.

ST has committed to investing US$500 million in the TMP facility, which is expected to become the largest CMOS TMP base in China with an annual testing, marking and packing capacity of 7 billion CMOSs, according to the agreement.

The new TMP plant is expected to empower ST's growth momentum in China and enhance the company's worldwide growth strategy, according to a ST press release.

The new plant will also be of great importance to improving the IT products manufacturing level in Shenzhen, according to local government.

ST entered China in 1987. It set up a joint-invested CMOS TMP plant in 1994 in Shenzhen, which rolls out 4.5 billion products annually with more than 2,300 employees.

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, ST is one of the world's largest semiconductor companies with nearly 50,000 employees.
