Adjust font size:

China National Offshore Oil Company Limited (CNOOC Ltd.) announced Tuesday that an oil platform in north China's Bohai Bay has successfully come on stream.

More than 2,200 barrels of light crude oil per day are now being produced from two wells in Platform A of Bo Zhong (BZ) 25-1/25-1S Field.

The successful commencement of Platform A concluded the development of the field by six platforms in the overall development plan of BZ 25-1/25-1S field, said CNOOC Ltd. in a circular released on Tuesday.

According to CNOOC Ltd., BZ 25-1/25-1S field is producing 30,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The daily production of this field is expected to increase, with more wells coming on stream later on.

BZ 25-1/25-1S field is located in the southeastern part of the Bohai Bay, about 127 kilometers southeast of Long Kou city in Shandong Province. Water depth of the field is approximately 20 meters.

Development of the field is divided into two phases. Platforms B, D and E in phase one and Platforms C and F in phase two started production in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

CNOOC Ltd holds 83.3 percent interest of BZ 25-1/25-1S field and acts as the operator.

Incorporated in Hong Kong in August 1999, CNOOC Ltd. is the principal subsidiary of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), China's largest offshore oil producer.

China produced nearly 1.3 billion barrels of crude oil in 2005 and CNOOC, the third largest oil producer of China, produced 130 million barrels.
