Adjust font size:

The world's second largest mobile phone maker, Motorola, said Thursday that its share of China's mobile phone market rose to over 20 percent, a year-on-year rise of 8.9 percentage points.

Motorola's mobile phones had global sales of US$7.14 billion in the second quarter, according to the company's fiscal report for the period.

Motorola's mobile phones earned the company US$799 million in profits for the period, accounting for 57.7 percent of the company's total profits, according to Motorola.

China has over 426 million mobile phone users, the most in the world. More than 100 million handsets are sold every year in China.

Despite gaining more market share, Motorola remains the second largest handset manufacturer in China next to Nokia.

The two leading handset makers account for more than half of the market in China.

Motorola launched its first global flagship shop in Shanghai this month and Nokia announced it will open a flagship store in China this year.
