Hong Kong Launches IT Application Campaign

The Hong Kong government is committed to making Hong Kong the information technology hub of Asia, Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting Carrie Yau said Tuesday at the IT Hong Kong campaign launching ceremony.

Yau said IT had become an indispensable element in the daily lives of Hong Kong people.

"One in two households now has a computer at home. Over one-third, or 2.5 million of our population, are Internet users. In fact, IT has touched on almost all aspects of our everyday life," she said.

However, Yau noted that there was still a lack of understanding of the use of IT in certain sectors in the community.

The IT campaign is aimed at promoting the use of IT in all sectors of the community to ensure that all people in Hong Kong enjoy the benefits brought about by technological advances and to make Hong Kong a leading digital city in the region.

Also officiating at the ceremony, Director of Home Affairs Shelley Lee said the campaign comprised the IT Pioneers and IT Awareness Programs, IT Hong Kong Website, district-based activities and IT Hong Kong Night.
