Motorola, China Mobile Sign US$34.4m Deal

US electronics giant Motorola has signed contracts to deliver cellular infrastructure equipment worth US$34.4 million with China Mobile Communications Corporation on Tuesday.

The deal will allow China Mobile to expand its GSM (global system for mobile communications) networks in the provinces of Guizhou, Henan and the city of Beijing, increasing subscriber capacity to half a million users.

The work is expected to be complete by the end of 2001, the company said in statement.

The latest contracts - awarded to Motorola and its joint venture partner China Eastern Communication Company Limited -- bring the total value of contracts awarded to Motorola by China Mobile to more than half a million dollars in the past five months.
