HSBC Links Up with Shanghai ATM Network

The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) has linked up with the Shanghai ATM Network, providing its customers with access to more than 2,000 ATMs throughout the city to make their Renminbi cash withdrawals, sources with the bank said today in Hong Kong.

"The link will bring greater convenience to our customers and further enhance our service, and more importantly, this is another inter-bank cooperation and reflects the vigorous development of the mainland's financial industry," said Eddie Wang, the bank's chief executive of China business,

The Shanghai ATM Network, made up of 17 domestic and foreign banks, is part of the Gold Card Project which aims to develop a nationwide ATM link-up, connecting with global systems such as VISA/PLUS and MasterCard/Cirrus

HSBC has the largest number of proprietary ATMs among foreign banks in China's mainland. With its head office in Pudong in Shanghai, the bank's mainland network spans 11 major cities.
