British Music Program to be Broadcast in Chongqing

The British music program " Selector" will be broadcast simultaneously on radio in 18 countries and Chongqing, the first city to permit direct broadcasting of foreign programs in China, as of September 6.

Chongqing, the largest metropolis in western China, is one of the first group of cities worldwide to broadcast the most popular songs, classic and folk music, and introduce established musicians and new music stars in Britain.

The program, arranged by the Chongqing People's Broadcasting Station and the British Consulate General in Chongqing, with be on the air every Thursday evening.

Matthew Burney, an official of the Cultural and Education Section of the British Consulate General in Chongqing, said the aim of the program is to help people of other countries have a new idea about Britain.
